GKN, oppn slam govt for terrorising youth

MARGAO/PANAJI

Goyant Kollso Naka (GKN) has condemned the action of the government to detain and traumatize innocent youth who were on their way to attend the Liberation Day celebrations in Panaji.

“Such dastardly misuse of power against the future citizens smacks of gross disrespect to the Constitution. The government must immediately apologize to the youth of Goa unconditionally, demanded GKN Co-convenor Abhijit Prabhudesai.

GKN Convenor Antonio D’Silva said the government can no longer refuse to see the truth regarding sustainable development  and the urgent need to correct absurd policies that are leading the State and the world towards ruin.

He said, “Stopping coal transportation through Goa and all related infrastructure that threaten our Western Ghats, villages and local communities and restoring the rights of the local communities over resources developed for over 1200 years by civilization are important so that Atmanirbhar Bharat can really happen.”

Opposition parties too slammed the government over its action of detaining the youth in Panaji, some of who were minors.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) State Convenor Rahul Mhambre condemned the detentions and called it “despicable attitude” of the Pramod Sawant-led government.

“While 60th #GoaLiberation Day is celebrated in presence of @rashtrapatibhvn, in another part of city youth protesting in silent and peaceful manner are arrested. Shame on this despicable attitude of @DrPramodPSawant,” Mhambre said in a tweet.

Former Deputy CM and Goa Forward Party president, Vijai Sardesai too condemned the Sawant government for detaining the protesting youth.

Sardesai tweeted: “The detention of #Goa’s #students today is @DrPramodPSawant’s assault on the basic #liberties #Goemkars earned 60 years ago. Today on #GoaLiberationDay the @goacm is showing us his vision of a Goa under surrender. We must #SaveGoaNow from his assault on our #people and our #future.”
