A two-day international technical seminar under the aegis of the Institution of Permanent Way Engineers (India) will be organised in the State from Friday.
The seminar is expected to be inaugurated by Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal, while the guest of honour is Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi.
Chairman of Railway Board Vinod Kumar Yadav will be the special guest, while Member of Engineering Railway Board and President of IPWE(I) M K Gupta will deliver the keynote address.
According to a press release by South Western Railways (SWR), delegates from all over India and overseas associated with the Permanent Way fraternity will participate in the two-day seminar.
The SWR claimed that Indian Railways is embarking on a massive upgradation and expansion of its infrastructure for higher speeds and increased axle loads. “With increasing number of passenger and freight trains over the years, the maintenance corridors are no longer available or are inadequate in most of the sections, more so in busy sections where the requirement of maintenance is also more.”
“Optimum utilization of the blocks, therefore, by optimizing the output of machines in the available maintenance slot is the need of the day to ensure safety and mobility in operations. At the same time quality assurance in maintenance and laying of track is of prime importance. “
“For capacity expansion, Railways are going in a big way for doubling, tripling and quadrupling. The second topic of the seminar will discuss the improvements for accelerated construction of doubling projects. Cultural change is needed to execute these projects faster by adopting newer methods of contracting, designing, supervising and executing. The seminar will deliberate on these issues,” stated the SWR press release.
