A week after the recruitment process for over a thousand job vacancies commenced at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), with hundreds queuing up daily, the institute apparently has no record of how many forms have been sold. Each application form is being sold for Rs 50 a form to those who wish to apply for the various posts, and upto ten forms are being sold per person.
However, Director of Administration Dattaram Sardessai told The Goan on Thursday that no record has been kept by the hospital of how many forms have been sold. “We don’t keep a record of how many forms have been sold. However, we will be able to tell you at the end of the application process how many application forms have been received by the GMC,” Sardessai said.
Sardessai’s response comes a week after Health Minister Vishwajit Rane tweeted that the reason the forms are being sold only at the GMC, is because a “certain protocol” had to be followed, and that the process had to be executed “transparently.” Rane was replying to the Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat who had questioned why the forms were not being made available at the taluka health centers to reduce the hardships of people traveling from far.
The Goan had reported at the end of August how job seekers had to wait for hours in a queue just to get the form. Most of the applicants were extremely upset with the system being followed, especially as some had to travel from Canacona, Valpoi, and other far-flung areas. Others had to take leave from their current jobs, simply to collect the application form at the GMC. Yet others, who were active on social networking sites had questioned why the forms were not being made available online. The last date for application is September 18.
