GMC inoculates 1,000 healthcare workers so far

Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim on Saturday became the first medical institution to vaccinate 1,000 Health Care Workers (HCWs) till date.

Dr Jagadish Cacodcar, the Nodal Officer for Covid vaccination and HoD (Preventive Medicine) at GMC, received the 1000th dose.

Saturday was the seventh vaccination session at GMC.

Sharing the details of this development, the Health Minister stated, “GMC has vaccinated HoDs, consultants, residents, medical and paramedical students, administrative and clerical staff, emergency responders and multi-tasking staff received the vaccine. We are considering setting up two more sites within GMC and all the four sites will work parallel,” the Health Minister stated. 

The vaccination drive continued on Saturday with a total of 726 HCWs being vaccinated across Goa on Saturday. Of these, 121 vaccinated  at GMC, 68 at Healthway Hospital,  131 at Manipal Hospital, 35 at Asilo, 49 at Platicare Hospital and SDH Ponda, 77 at Trimurti Hospital in Margao, 119 at Victor Hospital in Margao and 76 at ESI Covid Hospital, Margao.

Till Friday, a total of 2,820 HCWs had been given a shot of the ‘Covidshield’ vaccine across various centres in the State.

Goa has so far received 41,500 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and the Health Department continues to stick to its strategy to vaccinate as many HCWs within a short span of time.

93 new cases recorded

PANAJI: No covid deaths were recorded in the State on Saturday and the Covid victim count of Goa stands at 766.

A total of 93 new cases of the infection were detected from among the 1,882 samples tested in the last 24 hours. The active Covid count of the State is 759.
