Praising Cortalim MLA Anton Vas for his contribution to the health sector in a big way since 1990, Dr Rajesh Patil, Professor at the Department of Surgery in GMC, has requested Vas to allot one day in a week at PHCs for de-addiction awareness and treatment of addicts.

Dr Patil was speaking at a function by the Pale Farmers Association to felicitate Vas in the presence of Goa Coast Guard DIG Anurabh Bose, Col Dinesh Kumar and former sarpanchas of Quelosssim and Cansaulim panchayats, besides a large number of villagers.

"Vas has contributed to the health sector in a big way and had provided ambulances, hearses and mobile morgues since 1990 when many people didn't even have vehicles and people faced lot of struggles to move to GMC or shift patients or get dead bodies,” said Dr Patil.

Dr Patil recalled that even when Vas was a ZP member, he would regularly drive his own ambulance and hearse during emergency calls late at night or early morning.

“Recently during the pandemic, he drove many people to hospitals," said Dr Patil.

"I now want to request him to allot us one day in every PHCs in the coastal constituency of Cortalim to engage a psychiatrist to carry out de-addiction awareness camps and work for treatment of these people who are either addicted to alcohol or drugs,” he added.

Expressing his gratitude on being felicitated, Vas assured to take up works for the betterment of the Cortalim constituency.
