Newly appointed administrator of Goa Dairy Damodar Morajkar on Friday placed Managing Director Dr Navso Sawant under suspension and has directed him to report at the office of Assistant Registrar of Co-operative Societies at Ponda during his suspension period.
Morajkar issued the notice of suspension a day after he took charge of his post.
In his order, Morajkar said Dr Sawant has been placed “under suspension with immediate effect for the purpose of conducting necessary inquiry as ordered by the competent authority.”
Morajkar added that Dr Sawant would be entitled for subsistence allowance as per rules. Sources informed The Goan that the managing director’s responsibilities have been orally handed over to another veterinary officer, Dr R Dhuri.
The State government had dissolved the elected Board of Directors of the Goa Sate Co-operative Milk Producers Union (Goa Dairy) and has appointed Mirajkar as administrator.
In an order passed on Friday, Gadkar had said the directors of the Society, namely Dhananjay Dessai, Vithoba Dessai, Baburao Dessai, Naresh Malik, Gurudas Parab, Mahadav Sahakari and Rajendra Sawant were disqualified to continue on the Board of Directors.
Gadkar in his order quoted Section 59(11) of the Goa Co-operative Act and two inspection reports which found discrepancies, illegalities and irregularities in the working of the directors which was detrimental to the Society to dissolve the BoD.
Gadkar had also held the managing director Dr Sawant “wholly responsible” for the irregularities and mismanagement and placed him under suspension in the order.
Despite efforts, Morajkar could not be contacted for comments in the matter.
