Goa Dairy Chairman Madhav Sahakari has demanded an enquiry into the affairs of its Managing Director Dr Navasu Sawant, after alleging a scam of around Rs 8 crore in the last six years.
Sahakari claimed to have documentary evidence to prove the allegations.
Sahakari along with two directors, Ajay Desai and Babu Komarpant, on Monday addressed a news conference in a city hotel and showed some video footage to media persons, which they claimed, was a sting operation against Dr Sawant.
“All these months, I kept mum in the matter as I did not have concrete evidence against him. Now, I have video footage where he (Sawant) admits to the scam. I will produce it before the registrar along with a complaint against him,” Sahakari said.
“I tried my best to prevent Goa Dairy from getting maligned over these issues. But now, it is high time that MD Sawant’s manipulations are exposed. He has been doing manipulations while purchasing raw materials and machinery. He gives tenders only to his persons by doing the manipulations,” Sahakari alleged.
Sahakari also alleged that since the last six years of Dr Sawant’s tenure, Goa Dairy has been facing losses at the cattle feed plant, as Dr Sawant purchased raw material at rates higher than the market.
“There has been a scam of Rs 25 lakh while purchasing machinery into the ice cream plant and Rs 40 lakh into the fill pack machine. Also, while purchasing raw material for cattle feed plant, there is a scam of about Rs 7-odd crore. All this should be investigated,” Sahakari said.
“Recently, he (Dr Sawant) had floated a tender worth Rs 2.17 crore regarding some purchases and this was another scam. We cancelled this and saved our money,” Sahakari said.
It may be recalled that the Satyashodhak Samiti headed by Dattaprasad Sanvordekar of Goa Dairy had demanded an enquiry into the alleged scam committed by Dr Sawant and his team.
