The Goa Forward Party on Wednesday staged a demonstration at Verna Industrial Estate to demand 80 per cent job reservation for Goans in the private sector.
The party which was led by its President Prabhakar Timble and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai later handed over a memorandum to the Goa IDC office at Verna Industrial Estate.
Sardesai gave an ultimatum to the Parsekar government to guarantee jobs to Goans through proper legislation by May 1, failing which the people and youth of Goa would be forced to come on the streets.
Prashant Naik also took a dig at the Goa BJP claiming that it deserves to observe its Founder’s Day as U-turn Day and warned the government of taking a U-turn on employment.
The activists also submitted a memorandum to the Goa State Industrial Development Corporation demanding details of industrial establishment wise employment and the monitoring mechanism to ensure employment of Goans.
In the memorandum, GFP has expressed its interest in holding a dialogue with the industry to find solutions for any roadblocks in ensuring 80% employment to Goans, but warned that the peaceful protest could turn violent as the Goan youth are agitated over the issue.
Timble clarified that the party stood for development and welcomed industry and investment. “However, if it does not result in employment of Goans, such industrial expansion cannot be construed as development,” he said.
Sardesai told The Goan that councillors from Margao Municipal Council including Pooja Naik, Lyndon Pereira, Jose Fernandes and Peter Fernandes, General Secretary Mohandas Lolienkar, Velim Zilla Panchayat Member Anthony Rodrigues and other party leaders were also present during the demonstration.
A large police team led by Kapil Nayak were also present to avoid any untoward
incident.
