PANAJI: On the successful completion of the nationwide civil defence mock drill held yesterday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant reaffirmed that Goa is fully prepared to handle any emergency situation.
"We are fully prepared to handle any emergency, whether it’s a bomb blast at the airport or a collapse of the Mandovi bridge," Sawant said, addressing the media today.
He added that both districts are on high alert and all agencies, including the coast guard and police, are fully activated given Goa’s status as a coastal State.
The civil defence drill, held across 244 locations under the Home Ministry’s directive, saw active participation from both North and South Goa, designated as civil defence districts.
In line with Central guidelines, Goa Police have also stepped up visibility and patrols, especially in tourist-heavy zones.
“We are strengthening security in both districts during the day as well as night time,” said Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar. “Wherever there is a need to increase visibility, all necessary actions have been taken.”
Kumar added that while the State is receiving continuous directives from the Centre, “we cannot reveal them at this point of time due to sensitivity reasons.”
