BELAGAVI
In a major raid, Belagavi excise officials seized Goa liquor worth Rs 28 lakh on Saturday.
A truck carrying liquor and heading towards Hubballi was intercepted near Suvarna Vidhan Soudha here on the NH748 highway.
As many as 208 boxes of 18 types of high brands of Goa bottled liquor worth Rs 28.04 lakh which was concealed inside plywood were seized.
The truck driver Veerendra Kalpanath Mishra (34) of Uttar Pradesh has been taken into custody in this connection.
A team comprising Excise Superintendent Vijaykumar Hiremath, DySP Ravindra Murgod, PI Ravindra Hosalli and others was engaged in the raid under the guidance of Addl Commissioner of Excise Y Manjunath, Jt Commissioner of Excise Feroz Khan Killedar and Dy Excise Commissioner Vanajakshi.
