Goa resident assaulted over parking dispute in Belagavi

Second such incident after former MLA Lavoo Mamledar’s assault in February

BELAGAVI

In an incident of assault, a man hailing from Belagavi but residing in Goa was assaulted after an altercation due to parking of a vehicle.  

According to an FIR registered by Mandar Manjrekar (56) at Khade Bazaar police station here the incident which took place Saturday afternoon when Manjarekar was parking his vehicle in front of his residence at Risaldar Galli in Belagavi city.  

This is the second incident of an assault on a Goa resident after former Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar was brutally assaulted in February leading to his death.  

According to Manjrekar, son of a retired army officer, he was verbally abused and physically assaulted after he moved two-wheelers blocking the gate of his rented residence. The confrontation escalated when a local couple, whose vehicle had been shifted, confronted him and the situation turned physical.  

Manjrekar sustained injuries to the left side of his head after slipping during the assault. Local residents intervened and prevented further escalation. The complainant also reported continued verbal abuse and intimidation, allegedly over his Goa-registered vehicle.  

“I had come to visit my ailing old mother who lives in Belagavi and had gone to Army Institute in Camp area. I am shocked as there are rising incidents of Goan vehicles being targeted in Karnataka and vice versa, which the authorities from both the states need to look into seriously,” he said.  

While an FIR is registered at Khade Bazaar police station, Police Commissioner Bhushan Borse said that the police is thoroughly investigating the matter thoroughly and looking for the accused.
