Goa ST delegation submits political reservation demand to PMO

The delegation of 'Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribes of Goa', who are presently in Delhi, submitted a representation at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and to the office of Kiren Rijiju, Central Minister for Law and Justice on Wednesday.

The delegation also met Jual Oram, Member of Parliament & former minister of Tribal Affairs. The Scheduled Tribe communities - Gawda, Kunbi and Velip were included in the Scheduled Tribe list during his tenure when he was Central Minister of Tribal Affairs in 2003.

The delegation requested Jual Oram to give further justice to the STs of Goa by raising the issue of Political Reservation in the upcoming parliamentary session. The delegation briefed him about the available option within the framework of the Indian Constitution to address the long pending demand of political reservation for Scheduled Tribes of Goa.

General Secretary Rupesh Velim has said Jual Oram has assured to look into the matter and initiate necessary action at his end by communicating the same to the concerned departments and by raising it in the parliament.
