Temperatures remained above 35°C across Goa over the past two days, with only a marginal dip expected from Wednesday. The humidity is expected to remain high, prompting the health department to issue an advisory on heat-related illnesses.
As per the IMD, temperatures are likely to ease slightly to 34-35°C on Wednesday and further hover between 33-34°C over the next five days. However, humidity levels are expected to remain between 80% and 90%, maintaining discomfort.
The weather department has also predicted light rainfall and thundershowers during late afternoon and evening hours across North and South Goa till April 23. On April 24, light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers are likely, with isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph in both districts.
Amid rising temperatures witnessed across several states including Goa, the Directorate of Health Services issued a public advisory cautioning against heatstroke and related conditions. It noted that while the general population is at risk, the elderly and children are particularly vulnerable.
The advisory urged residents to take preventive measures, including wearing lightweight, light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing, ensuring proper ventilation at home, and limiting exposure during peak afternoon hours. People were advised to stay hydrated by consuming water, fruit juices or buttermilk, and to avoid strenuous outdoor activities in hot and humid conditions.
Special precautions are recommended for infants and children, including ensuring adequate fluid intake, avoiding outdoor play during peak heat hours, and maintaining a cool indoor environment. Authorities also cautioned against alcohol consumption and highlighted that houses with tin roofs may experience higher indoor temperatures, requiring additional care.
