Goa Velha deputy sarpanch Iyno D’Souza informed that the panchayat has filed a writ petition against the government over its failure to pay octroi since the past four years.
D’Souza was speaking at the gram sabha, on Sunday, which was attended by very few villagers.
“The panchayat is entitled to octroi as there is one petrol pump operating in the village. But since the past four years the panchayat has not received the same and hence we have filed a writ petition in the High Court,” D’Souza stated while adding that the octroi due to the panchayat is around Rs 50 lakh.
D’Souza also outlined the development undertaken by the panchayat in the past five years and listed construction of panchayat ghar and playground among the top works.
Meanwhile, the villagers raised the issue of illegal constructions at St Anthony Vaddo and urged the panchayat authorities to act in the matter as they feared that it could lead to change in the demography of the area.
The issue of hosting of the procession of saints also came up for discussion with the villagers urging the panchayat to extend help to the church in all way possible as the same is being held after a gap of two years.
Stating that the panchayat has always been supportive, dy sarpanch D’Souza however said that the Church committee and the panchayat should sit and chalk out the details.
But, a local informed that the parish priest has already held a meeting with the sarpanch in which the requirements have been listed.
Earlier, the budget estimates of Rs 1.45 crore were approved at the gram sabha.
