Goan disability rights activist Sripad Pai Bir from Chimbel has been awarded the ADAPT National Award for Civil Rights and Activism at a function held on World Cerebral Palsy Day at ADAPT (formerly Spastics Society of India) in Mumbai recently.
Pai Bir, born with cerebral palsy is currently 28 years old waged a seven year long crusade with the Directorate of Transport for getting hold of a driver's licence. Pai Bir finally secured his licence recently.
He has also taken up various disability issues and other issues with the state government. He is a self employed businessman having electrical and electronics training centre and a garments shop.
In the past, Pai Bir has been felicitated by the We Care Film Festival in February 2015 for outstanding achievement for persons with disability. He is an active member of Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG). He is the son of Vinayak and Neeta Pai Bir from Chimbel.
