Goan naval officer named head of Southern Command

Naval officer Rear Admiral Satish Shenoi took over as the Chief Staff Officer of the Southern Naval Command Headquarters in Kochi.

Shenoi, an alumnus of the Indian Naval Academy was born in Morjim and joined the Indian Navy on July 1, 1993 as an officer.

He is a graduate of the DSSC Wellington and has done Army Higher Command Course at the Army War College.

His father Meghnath Shenoi was a primary teacher and was popularly known as ‘Bhai Master’.

In Goa, the Shenoi family resided in different parts of the State depending on where Meghnath’s posting as primary teacher was.

After joining as a sailor in the year 1985, Shenoi cleared various examinations to climb to the rank of an officer and served in INS Ranvijay, INS Mumbai and INS Delhi as an expert in artillery and missile warfare.

He has also commanded INS Kirch, INS Trishul and INS Talwar and coastal units INS Dronacharya and INS India.

His other assignments include appointments at DFC NHQ, HQ WNC & 22 KS, ENC & LWT (East) and Director CELABS Kochi.

Shenoi through his service in the Navy has been awarded VCNS Commendation in 2009, CNS Commendation in 2011 and Navy Medal in 2021.
