Goan Varta Live: Beginning of a new revolutionary era

“This is, indeed, a revolution and a new beginning. With the birth of a mega Marathi channel, Goan Varta Live, Goa will witness a new era of thought, ideology and perspective that would bring in a transformation in media outlook. Unleashing the immense possibilities of metamorphosis in this tiny State, our channel would showcase the world what Goa is,” announced Kishor Naik Gaonkar, editor, Goan Varta Live.

He was speaking his heart, minutes before the official launch of the channel.

Pointing out that Goa has given many talented artists to the world, but very few intellectuals, the young editor reasoned out that this may have happened because, in the past, the State expanded its energy in fueling the controversies over language.

“There was no electronic medium in Goa that was devoted to exclusive Marathi coverage. We would fill this gap, as we can look back and feel the bond between the two languages that are close to the heart of the people of Goa. Yes, Goa is different. We speak Konkani, read Marathi and understand English. After Kerala, Goa is the second state when it comes to literacy in India. We have to create more intellectuals, and the new channel will work towards giving a new direction to the people of Goa by introducing a new Goa to them as well as to the world. A Goa that all will be proud of,” said Kishor.

Stating that Goa is not limited to beaches, temples and churches, Kishor said, “This is a Devbhoomi (land of the Gods). The land has a rich cultural heritage. We have to focus on this and reach a bigger audience that speaks Marathi, maintaining the sweetness of Konkani, which is the language of the soil. Without any discrimination, we want to make our channel the voice of every Goan.”
