Goans don’t overdrink, bars must reopen, says Sardinha

South Goa Congress MP Fransisco Sardinha on Wednesday said bars in the State should be reopened, adding that the State government must take up the issue with the Centre.

Sardinha was speaking to reporters at Dabolim airport after inaugurating artworks depicting Goan culture and heritage.

When asked to comment about reopening of bars in Goa, Sardinha told reporters that he had been frequently demanding the reopening of bars in the State.

"Bars are also a part of Goan culture and I am in favour of reopening bars in the State. Goans know to drink and they don't overdrink. I have been saying this right from the beginning that if hotels are reopened up then why not bars,” asked Sardinha.

“Wholesale liquor outlets have also opened up while bars continue to remain closed. The State government must take up this issue with the Centre. As of now, we are not functioning amid the pandemic but if I were in New Delhi, I would definitely have taken up the issue of reopening bars in the state with the Centre.”
