On high alert amid rising Covid cases in Maharashtra, the Belagavi district administration has stated that Goans entering Karnataka via Amboli and Shinoli in Maharashtra would also need to produce a Covid RT-PCR negative certificate.

The administration has set up a check post at Shinoli about 12 kms from Belagavi at the Karnataka-Maharashtra border and Deputy Commissioner M G Hiremath inspected the check post along with police officials on Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking to The Goan, Belagavi Deputy Commissioner M G Hiremath said this requirement would only be for Goans entering Karnataka via Shinoli and Amboli in Maharashtra and would not apply to Goans travelling via other routes between Karnataka and Goa.

He was speaking after inaugurating a state of art RT-PCR Covid testing centre at the Maratha Mandal Dental College here. The centre has been set up in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Belgaum and the Lakeview Goaves Hospital here.

“I appeal to people of Maharashtra to cooperate with the district administration and produce a Covid negative certificate before entering Karnataka.”

“We are also vigilant about people of Goa entering Karnataka via Sindhudurg and Kolhapur districts and have set up check posts at all the Maharashtra borders,” the deputy commissioner said.
