Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha on Tuesday inaugurated Goa’s first Ayurvedic Dispensary under the Ayushman Bharat initiative, which will be operated as Ayush Health and Wellness Centre (AHWC) at the Cortalim Primary Health Centre (PHC).

Saldanha inaugurated the dispensary in the presence of Ayush Dy Director Dr Datta Bhat, Cortalim PHC Health Officer Dr Socorro Quadros, sarpanchas and panchas of Cortalim and Quelossim panchayats.

Speaking to media persons, Saldanha said the dispensary was a dream come true in the health sector.

“This Ayush dispensary will help a lot of people in Cortalim constituency to cope with their health problems because Ayush is an alternative medicine by way of yoga and ayurvedic medication.”

“Ayurvedic medicine will also be provided free of cost. This is the first Ayush dispensary to be inaugurated in Goa and Cortalim people are lucky to have this facility for their needs.”

“We have come to a stage where we have to turn towards Ayush which is about alternative medicine and includes Ayurvedic medication and Yoga.”

“It is known that people have found relief through Yoga and Yoga clinics and in case I have to take care of any aches or strains, I will myself come here,” said Saldanha.

Ayush Dy Director Dr Datta Bhat said the Ayush department had funded 60% of costs for AHWC and the

centre would have facilities like Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy and Homeopathic medicines.

“Allopathic medicines sometimes don’t give good results for some chronic disease like Allergy, Arthritis, Asthma, etc. and hence, such AHWC will be opened for all.”

“We will have ayurvedic doctors, yoga therapist and provide all such facilities. All the PHCs in Goa have been funded to have such AHWCs and people should make the best of these facilities,” said Dr Bhat.
