While the Goa government has come under fire for its Covid handling, it is the only State where 100 per cent of the deaths are reported and certified, according to Dr Shekhar Salkar, a consulting oncololgist.
Dr Salkar said in Kerala though all deaths are reported, only a few are certified and the situation is the same in some other states as well.
He pointed out that the case fatality ratio in Goa was 1.8 per cent, Maharashtra 1.9 per cent and Punjab was the highest at 2.7 per cent. In Delhi it was 1.7 per cent and Kerala 0.4 per cent.
He said the overall death rate in both the waves was 1.8 per cent which was better than the USA and other developed countries.
According to medical data, there is a difference of patients testing positive in May and June as well as the number of deaths in these two months. While in June there were 11,023 cases and 327 Covid deaths in Goa, the month of May saw 64,614 Covid cases and 1,481 deaths. The death rate in May was 2.29 per cent while in June it was 2.96 per cent.
