The Nationalist Congress Party on Tuesday targeted the BJP-led government in the State for harassing Goa-based businessman and co-owner of Club Tito’s.
“When a Goan businessman accuses government officials of harassment the finger automatically points to the government of the day. It’s clear that the functioning of the BJP-led government in the State has forced the owners of Club Tito’s to take the drastic step of selling off their business in Goa,” said Sanjay Barde, General Secretary of NCP.
The NCP secretary was addressing a news conference along with other members of the party in his office in Mapusa.
Club Tito’s co-owner Ricardo D’Souza had on Monday announced selling off all their business in Goa on account of harassment he faced at the hands of police, PDA, CRZ, BDOs, deputy collectors, sarpanchas, panchayats and NGOs.
Barde said the allegations made by D’Souza were serious and urged the chief minister and the BJP State President to clarify the matter.
“The owner of Club Tito’s is a good man. He has helped Goa to achieve global recognition with his entertainment business. If Goans quit businesses in such fashion then it reflects badly on the government of the day,” he said.
He further disclosed that NCP had recently filed a complaint at Anjuna Police Station against a hotel for organising a party with a large number of guests without permission but the State administration has failed to take any action.
“This shows that this government will allow businesses run by non-Goans to function without problem but harass only Goan businessmen,” he said.
Barde also slammed the government for leasing out Aguada jail to a private party.
