Road accidents in Goa continue to rise with the State recording 1,255 crashes this year so far -- 104 more than during the corresponding period in 2025.

The latest official figures, available with The Goan, also indicate that 160 accidents were reported in June till date, compared to 135 during the same period last year, an increase of 25 cases.

Fatal accidents rose from 14 to 15, while deaths increased from 14 to 17. Grievous accidents increased from 17 to 21 and minor accidents from 32 to 42.

The year-to-date figures paint a similar picture. Goa has reported 1,255 accidents so far in 2026, compared to 1,151 during the corresponding period in 2025, an increase of 104 cases.

Despite the rise in crashes, fatalities have remained largely stable. The State recorded 132 deaths in road accidents this year, one less than the 133 deaths reported during the same period last year. Fatal accidents also fell marginally from 130 to 126.

However, the number of serious and minor crashes has increased significantly. Grievous accidents rose from 106 to 126, while the number of persons injured in such accidents increased from 127 to 158. Minor accidents climbed from 237 to 280, and injuries in those cases surged from 366 to 434.

The number of non-injury accidents also increased from 678 to 723, indicating a broader rise in overall crash incidents across the State.

The June figures suggest that the upward trend seen earlier in the year has continued. During the month so far, grievous accidents increased by four cases and injuries in such crashes rose by five. Minor accidents increased by 10 cases, while injuries in minor accidents rose by seven.

The latest data comes after Goa had already reported 1,094 accidents and 112 deaths between January and May this year. While fatalities during the first five months had declined compared with the same period in 2025, the overall number of accidents had increased by 77 cases.

Traffic Police analysis for the January-May period showed that over 96 per cent of accidents were attributed to rash and negligent driving, with motorcyclists accounting for the largest share of fatalities. National highways contributed more than one-third of all crashes, while straight stretches of road accounted for the vast majority of accidents.
