MARGAO
Saying that he has decided to lead the Congress party from the front, Opposition leader Digambar Kamat on Friday appealed to Madgavkars to stand by the Congress, saying the party has a golden opportunity to return to power after the ensuing polls.
Addressing party workers after unveiling his election office in the city here on Friday, Kamat said he had promised Madgavkars in particular and the people of Goa in general that he is not leaving the Congress but would lead the party from the front in the coming polls.
Saying that he does not want to comment on his rivals in the fray, Kamat, without taking any names, however, took a dig at the BJP candidate Babu Ajgaonkar saying the BJP has dumped on Madgavkars a candidate who has been driven away from Pernem.
“I have been moving around the State for the last several days and the message is clear that people want to take over the reign of the government and save the State from destruction. People of Goa had seen the government during my tenure, which was a period of prosperity. The tenure of the present government has pushed the State to poverty”, he said.
Kamat’s election was blessed by the Parish Priest of St Sebastian Church Aquem Fr Andrew. In his brief speech, Fr Andrew requested the Margao MLA to work for providing better amenities for the citizens.
