Goods rickshaw hits new height barrier at Assagao

A goods-carrying rickshaw left dangling in the air after crashing into the height barrier erected on the Ganeshpuri-Siolim-Marna road.

In an unusual incident, a goods rickshaw struck a newly installed height barrier and got stuck to the barrier on the Ganeshpuri-Siolim-Marna road on Friday morning,

The PWD had installed a height barrier on the accident-prone Ganeshpuri–Siolim–Marna road stretch to restrict the movement of heavy and oversized vehicles. These barriers have a height limit of 2.5 metres.

This road serves as a convenient shortcut for vehicles travelling from Mapusa to Siolim, Morjim, and Harmal, making it a busy route.

The rickshaw driver was travelling from Marna to Mapusa, unaware that the height barrier had been installed on the road.

The rickshaw rammed into the metal height barrier, causing the front section of the vehicle to get suspended in the air. Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident, although the rickshaw sustained damage. Traffic on the road was disrupted for some time following the incident. The rickshaw was later removed with the help of a crane.
