Making a quick breakthrough in the sensational murder of 39 year-old photographer-turned-perfumer Monika Ghurde at her rented apartment in Sangolda in Bardez taluka on October 7, the Goa police on Sunday arrested 21 year-old Rajkumar Singh at Bengaluru (Bangalore) in connection with the killing of the woman who was residing all alone. The accused is a former security guard at Jasmine Apartment of Sapna Raj Valley Residential Complex at Bella Vista in Sangolda where Monika Ghurde lived. He is a native of Bhatinda, Punjab.
In a shocking revelation, it has come to light that the murder was fuelled by revenge and an acute need for money faced by Rajkumar Singh, who was dismissed from his employment following Ghurde’s complaint against him to the management of the residential society three months ago.
The investigating team of Goa Police is scheduled to arrive along with the accused by Monday evening.
Sources have disclosed that three months ago, Ghurde noticed Rajkumar Singh with an umbrella that had disappeared from her apartment. She complained to the society that the security guard had robbed her umbrella and based on her complaint, the society dismissed him from his duties. He was not paid his salary which was due to him.
In a fit of rage fuelled equally by revenge and the need for money, Singh knocked on Ghurde’s door armed with a knife late in the evening on October 5.
In his confession, Singh revealed that he secured entry into her apartment by pointing the knife at her and demanded money from her.
Ghurde told him that she didn’t have any cash on her. However, she began negotiating with Singh and handed over her ATM debit card along with the PIN. She told Singh that he could withdraw money from the card.
In an attempt to dissuade Singh from attacking her, Ghurde offered him refreshments and repeatedly assured him that she would not disclose this incident to anyone. This is when Ghurde snatched the knife from Singh’s hand and began to scream.
Singh feared that her screaming would draw attention and he picked a pillow and pressed it against her mouth and nose in an attempt to silence her screams.
Singh confessed that his intention was not to kill Ghurde and that he only wished to silence her screams. Ghurde fell unconscious during the
