Even though the first Goods-and-Services-Tax (GST) returns have to be filed by August 20, the state government has already earned Rs 2.43 crore through GST. This is because certain taxpayers chose to pay the tax before the deadline of filing the return.
State Commissioner for GST, Dipak M Bandekar said, "We have already collected Rs 2.43 crore through state government GST (SGST). The dealers have paid an equal amount of Rs 2.43 crore on account of central government's share of GST, which is also called CGST."
Over and above this, Bandekar also informed that the dealers in the state have already paid Rs 3.83 lakh on account of inter-state GST (IGST), which is on products being sent from Goa to other states for sale.
Meanwhile, the dealers are gearing up to file first GST return on August 20. The central government has simplified the process of filing the first GST return.
The dealers have to now fill only a one-page form called ‘GSTR3B' for the first return and for the second return on September 30.
Bandekar also informed that 58 dealers in the state have still not registered on the GST portal.
However, no punitive action will be taken against them till September.
The unregistered dealers will also have to pay Goods-and-Services-Tax which means non registration is not an excuse for not paying the tax.
On the other hand, unregistered dealers will not be able to take input-tax-credit, which will eventually increase their cost thereby harming their business.
