Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Wednesday honoured NCC cadets who represented Goa in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi on March 27, and those cadets and teachers who contributed towards the vibrance of the NCC in Goa.
The NCC cadets were honoured as part of the ‘At Home Function’ organized and hosted by the governor at the Raj Bhawan.
The cadets who were felicitated were JUO Shresth Fadte (St Xaviers College, Mapusa), SCC Uday Kishor Jha (DMs College, Assagao), SCC Akash Harilal Maurya (Damodar Higher Secondary School, Quepem) and Cadet Devang Kamat (G.S Amonkar Vidya Mandir, Mapusa).
Another 13 NCC cadets were felicitated for participating in various NCC activities at the national level which included inter group competition, national shooting championship, on board deployment on coast guard ship, SNIC, All India Nau Sainik camp and participation in ‘Waste to Wonder’ competition.
The governor also felicitated four Associated NCC Officers for their lifetime achievement, Pro Jayant Budkuley, Pro Kiran Budkuley, Pro Vivek Pereira, Pro Vidyadhar Bhagat.
Cadet Pralesh Chopdekar and ex-Cadet Sadika Buddaseth were rewarded for outstanding service to the society. Three Associated NCC Officers were also given awards for outstanding performance during the previous year.
The four cadets who participated in the Republic Day parade were also given monetary incentive for their good work by the State. Cadets of Bhumika High School, Poriem, kept the audience captive by unravelling pristine Goa with a Konkani song.
The function was attended by host of former NCC cadets, military and civil dignitaries, including the Deputy Director General, Karnataka & Goa NCC Directorate, Air Commodore SB Arun Kumar, VSM, NCC Belgaum Group Commander Col. Mohan Naik, Vice Chancellor of Goa University Harilal B Menon and Dr Caitano Fernandes (President GFA).
Col. Jesus Furtado, Commanding Officer of 1 Goa Battalion NCC later proposed the vote of thanks.
