Goa liquor worth over Rs 9 lakh has been seized in Hindalga near Belagavi city on Thursday and police arrested one person from Belagavi, while also seizing the vehicle carrying the liquor.
According to information, police received specific information and a team under the guidance of senior officers raided a car parked at a public place at Laxminagar in Hindalga near Belagavi city. They arrested Rajesh Keshav Naik who was found selling and transporting illegal liquor from Goa. About 186.5 litres of illicit liquor bottles of different brands with an estimated value of Rs 9,09,750 from Goa were seized.
Police Commissioner of Police Ieda Martin Marboning, DCP (L&O) Rohan Jagdish, have intensified the campaign against Goa liquor which is making inroads in the poll-bound Belagavi district.
Checking at the excise check posts at Kankumbi, bordering Goa and Shinoli has been intensified in view of the rise in the flow of Goa liquor.
Cash worth Rs 7.98 lakh seized near Kankumbi
Unaccounted cash of Rs 7.98 lakh which was illegally being transported in a vehicle from Goa to Belagavi was seized near Kankumbi-Belagavi.
Returning Officer of Khanapur constituency Balram Chavan and his team seized the cash on Friday morning.
