All India Congress Committee secretary Girish Chodankar on Saturday urged the Governor of Goa to dismiss the state government for having disregarded the terror alert sounded by Indian Coast Guard through the Captain of Ports on April 6.
Chodankar informed that Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Shantaram Naik will soon write to the Governor seeking the dismissal of the government.
“Governor of Goa should dismiss the irresponsible government which has disregarded the national security. Party leader will meet the Governor soon and suit a written request,” he said.
The AICC secretary further demanded a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the reasons for the lapses in following due procedure in such situation by the state Home Department.
“We strongly demand the NIA to immediately begin an inquiry on why Goa Home Ministry kept quiet on this issue. Take those responsible to task,” he said.
Chodankar further pointed out that unlike the Goan government, BJP governments in Gujarat and Maharashtra as well as the Kerala government were proactive in taking steps to ensure that the alert was handled with due seriousness.
He also lambasted the state government for having attempted a compromise on national security despite
credible inputs, allegedly due to the internal turmoil within the BJP.
“CoP issued a letter. Yet, Goa government’s security agencies didn’t react to it. Fortunately, the attack didn’t occur. The reason for this failure to react is that Goa government for last two months is headless,” Chodankar argued while targeting the lapse in state’s security infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the Congressman has claimed yet again that several disgruntled leaders from BJP’s top rungs have contacted him to voice their grievances.
“The growing unrest among those who founded the party in Goa came to fore at the fast they staged recently. They formed the government but lost their party organization. Only four leaders run the party and do not take their workers into confidence. We urge them to introspect,” Chodankar said referring to the ruling party.
