Govind Gaude, who had lost to Deepak Dhavalikar from Priol constituency in the previous elections, on Monday stopped construction work of a road from Goa Engineering campus to Katamgalli at Farmagudi-Ponda.

The 1.5-km road is being constructed by the PWD and the foundation for it was laid on October 19, 2015, by PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar.

PWD had launched work of two roads from GEC campus border. One road was proposed to Katamgalli, where religious structure exists and also leading to developed plots, while the other road of 1.5 km stretch on the right hand side of GEC is under construction, which will connect to Veling. The estimated cost of this 15 metres broad road is Rs 4 crore.

While launching the work of the two roads, Dhavalikar had said that the work was taken up only to stop trespassers in GEC.

“Campus should be exclusively used for educational purposes and no outsider should be allowed within. But as the existing road from the campus passes to Katamgalli (religious place) and Veling, they enter the campus area. Once this road from the boundary becomes a reality, all the problems will be solved,” Dhavalikar had said.

Govind Gaude had objected to these roads and had written to the chief minister, Director of Technical Education and other departments concerned.

“Local MLA Dhavalikar wants to provide approach road to a property belonging to the comunidade, where plots are developed. Jan Jagruti Manch Bandora had complained to the authorities to stop developing plots on comunidade land. Now, to facilitate them, the minister has spent money of tax payers on a road,” Gaude alleged.

Gaude has demanded enquiry against Director of Technical Education Vivek Kamat for allowing road from GEC campus. “I had raised objection against these roads even with Kamat, but there was no response from him. I can understand the road leading to Veling, but what is the need to construct this road towards Katamgalli, where illegal plots are being developed,” Gaude asked.
