Velim village will be taken up as an Adarsh village by the Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar to make Velim a model village, with focus on education, environment, entrepreneurship and women empowerment.
The Rajya Sabha MP further informed that he would take up with the government the issue of a breakwater facility at the mouth of river Sal as well as the disposal of sewage in the river.
Addressing the media, MP Tendulkar said the Adarsh Ghanv village is the brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the scheme could not be implemented due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but has now been revived by the Centre.
He said the government has appointed Sachin Tendulkar as a nodal officer to execute the project, adding that party spokesman Savio Rodrigues will coordinate with various departments, including the Collector and officials on how to achieve the targets.
Savio told the media that the Adarsh Ghanv village concept will focus on education, entrepreneurship, employment, sports, environment keeping in mind the environmental sensibilities of Velim village.
“On education, we are working with a Delhi-based institute to introduce a concept in class one, envisaging online rendition of education of all kinds. Since the content is CBSE, we will have to tailor the content for Goa Board before its introduction at the Panchayat level,” he added.
He said plans are afoot to introduce a concept through a company to create training modules to serve the senior citizens.
