The State government has revoked in-principle approvals to 24 projects granted by the Investment Promotion Board (IPB) on grounds that a few investors had misutilised the approvals obtained and that, some of the projects had been marked on coastal regulation zone (CRZ) land. This was stated by Industries Minister Vishwajit Rane at the ongoing Assembly session while responding to a question raised by Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco.

Some of the key projects losing in-principle approvals are: West Coast Hotels’s Luxury Hotel Project, Ordain Health Care Global’s Pharma Project, Cartini India’s Expansion Project, Barmalt Malting’s Food Plant, Schiffer & Menezes’s Expansion Project, and others.

Vishwajit further informed that implementation of 42 projects has been held up because of pending approval from one or more government departments. Key projects which fall in this category are: Yacht Heaven (Goa)’s Marina Project, Kargwal

Construction’s Marina Project, TCPL Packaging’s Manufacturing Project, P.P Shree Padamanabh Shishya Sampraday Trust’s Educational Project.

Meanwhile, another 9 projects have been held up because of delay at investors’ end. In its board meetings over the last five years, IPB had granted in-principle approval to 179 projects. Of these 56 projects have been implemented while another 31 are in progress.

Of the 179 projects, which got the in-principle nod, 12 fall in the red category as well. Rane informed that these projects are also under review and the final decision on them is pending. Some of the red category projects are: Vani Agro Farms’s Alcohol Project, Velho Microbrew’s Brewery Project, Laxmi Jardin’s Eco-Tourism Project.

It was also informed that CEO of IPB, Vishal Prakash, has been nominated as the nodal officer on behalf of the State Government for Central Government’s Mission of making India a 5 trillion dollar economy by 2025.
