Govt clears 8-yr-old Tillari CADB plan worth more than Rs 260 crore

PANAJI

A development scheme worth Rs 264-odd crores encompassing dozens of villages in three talukas -- Bicholim, Bardez and Pernem -- all within the catchment area of the Tillari irrigation project has been cleared by the State government more than eight years after it was first formulated and notified for public information back in 2015.

The ‘development scheme’ has been sanctioned by the Command Area Development Board (CADB) of the Tillari project and it has also been notified afresh, complete with maps and details of all the areas covered.

The scheme involves development work in these three talukas with consolidated command areas of 5130 Hectares (Bicholim), 5137 Hectares (Bardez) and 4254 Hectares (Pernem).

The CADB had prepared the development scheme back in April 2015 and the government had notified it while inviting objections from those who were getting affected by it.

Under existing rules, non-agricultural activity and development in catchment areas is prohibited. With this development scheme cleared by the CADB, only what is specified in the plan will be permitted in those villages.
