The Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has slammed the government for introducing the income criteria to avail the scheme for technical education and has demanded its rollback.
Speaking to reporters in Panaji on Tuesday, RGP supremo Manoj Parab informed that the government had introduced the Diamond Jubilee Government Investment for Technical Education (DJ-GIFT) last year in June, in which students availing the scheme for technical education were eligible for 50% concession in fees.
“On November 22, the Directorate of Technical Education has issued a circular in which it has been said that the scheme would be eligible only to those students whose family income is less than Rs 5 lakh,” Parab informed.
He then slammed the government for introducing the income criteria as it would impact a lot of students who have availed admissions for technical education studies.
“The scheme aims at encouraging Goan students to get into technical education as the fees are lot higher,” Parab pointed out.
“Chief Minister Pramod Sawant talks a lot about the need for pre-skilling, up-skilling, which is the reason why the scheme was introduced without any income criteria so that candidates could be prepared for taking up technical jobs which would be created in the State,” he said.
Parab further questioned the government for introducing the income criteria within a year of implementation of the scheme and demanded that the same be withdrawn so that all students, irrespective of their financial status are able to avail the same.
Parab further said that the Revolutionary Goans would submit memorandum to the authorities concerned demanding withdrawal of the circular.
