Govt focused on health, edu: Ramesh Tawadkar

Claiming that the State government has succeeded in providing food, clothing and shelter to all needy people, Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar has said the government is now focused on providing health and educational facilities at the doorstep since education and health facilities are now part of basic needs of human beings in today's world.
Tawadkar was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Health Mela at the Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC), which has been organised by the Directorate of Health Services as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostav’.
“Initially, food, clothing and shelter were the three basic aims of the citizens. People have begun availing these three basic necessities to a great extent and this human development has been made possible by proper education.”
“Health and education is equally important along with food, clothing and shelter. Sarpanchas, panchas, councillors and Anganwadi workers should devote more of their energies and in bringing about awareness on health and education to the masses,” said Tawadkar.
The DHS in coordination with Goa Medical College, Dental College, Women and Child Department and other departments organised the Health Mela from 8.30 am to 4 pm at CHC Canacona.
The health camp aimed to achieve various objectives of facilitating people to avail the benefits of different Health schemes and creating awareness about the prevention of Non-Communicable & Communicable Diseases, providing screening for early diagnosis, basic health care services with drugs and diagnostics, tele-consultation with relevant health specialists and referrals as needed.
The DHS provided various OPDs for the general public at the Health Mela such as General OPD, OBG OPD, Medicine OPD, Surgery OPD, ENT OPD, Ophthalmology OPD, Orthopedic OPD, Skin OPD, Pediatric, Dental, AYUSH/Homeopathy OPD and Blood Donation Camps.
Wellness activities like yoga and meditation were also conducted. The Directorate of Food & Drugs Administration created awareness regarding the 'Eat Right Campaign'. Similarly, the Directorate of Education, Panchayati Raj, Art and Culture were incorporated to promote the Health for All movement.
Among those present included Canacona Mamlatdar Manoj Korgaonkar, Health Officer Dr Sneha Amonkar, Health Instructor Bhausaheb Rane, BDO Anil Naik, APEO Motilal Naik Gaunkar, CDPO Aakansha Naikgaunkar, Dr Navjyot Halarnkar, Dr Jose Tawares, Councillors Sara Naik Desai, Narciso Fernandes, Amita Pagi and Hemant Naikgaunkar.
