Govt hikes bus fare, effective from tomorrow

The government of Goa has revised bus fares in the State with effect from June 1.

According to an official notification issued by Director of Transport Nikhil Dessai, the maximum fares chargeable by operators of stage carriages/city buses plying in the State for 0-3 kilometers is Rs 10. However, a new slab has been introduced. For 3.1 to 8 kilometers an additional Rs 5 will be charged and for every next 8 kilometer after that an additional Rs 5 will be charged.  

For the stage carriages of the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited, plying from point to point and have no standing passengers will be charged as follows: For shuttle services -- Rs 1.40 per kilometer, for air conditioned buses -- Rs 2 per kilometer, for the Airport to Calangute route -- Rs 150 per shuttle service passenger, from the Airport to Mobor -- Rs 125 per shuttle service passenger.  

For bonafide students of Goa, the bus fare shall be at concessional rates, ie. 50% of the rates mentioned above. A “bonafide student” means a person who is pursuing a course of studies as a full time student in any recognized educational institution in Goa, and possesses, at the time of journey, a valid identity card issued, under the signature of the Head of such institution. This does not include a person who is pursuing higher education while gainfully employed.
