The Mormugao Municipal council (MMC) has been gearing up for the monsoons and while some pre-monsoon works have already begun, MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes has sent reminders to all sections to take up the pending pre-monsoon works and to file a compliance report.
Speaking to reporters, Fernandes said all MMC sections were to take up the works and submit compliance reports to MMC by May 25.
“But since there was no feedback from departments on submission of compliance reports regarding pre-monsoon works, reminders were issued to all sections. The MMC are fully gearing up to face the monsoon,” said Fernandes.
Fernandes said a review meeting of pre-monsoon works was convened on May 10, with the Mormugao Deputy Collector and SDO issuing directions to various departments.
“Some works which were delayed due to the election code of conduct will start in a few days. Nearly 75% of de-silting works are completed, while the work order for de-weeding of the Nallah in front of Taniya Hotel is also issued. Cutting of dangerous trees in progress,” said Fernandes.
“The WRD was directed to de-silt Nallahs at Baina, Voddant, Vaddem, Merces, Baina and Mangoor.
The MPT Superintendent Engineer, the Station Manager of South Central Railways, the GSIDC, PWD (National highways), PWD (works division VI) and the NHAI were informed to submit compliance reports on drains and cross drains in their jurisdictions. The Vasco fire station fire officer has been asked to submit compliance report on cutting of dangerous trees in municipal jurisdiction,” said Fernandes.
