Govt may even shoot people, fears Reginaldo

MARGAO
Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has said filing of FIR against protesting Goemkars at Chandor is a sign of callousness and cruelness on the part of the State government.

The Curtorim MLA questioned the “insensitive government” why only organisations like Goyant Kollso Naka and Goencho Ekvott and activists like Abhijit Prabhudesai and Creson Antao have been booked. “There were so many Goemkars, including myself, who had descended on Chandor on November 1 midnight. Why haven’t they booked us?” he questioned.

“Is it that the government wants to silence the voice of Goemkars?” he demanded to know, adding it is a big shame that the government instead of listening to people is spreading white lies on benefits of the projects.

Saying his fears on the Goa BJP led government of turning to be repressive is coming true, Reginaldo recalled he had stated that the stubborn State government may even shoot Goemkars protesting against the disastrous project.

He highlighted the recent firing incident which took place at Munger in Bihar. “The first palpable signs of my ominous belief are draconian step of the State government directing the Maina-Curtorim Police to file FIR against NGOs and activists,” he added.

He cautioned that Goemkars would not only against the double-tracking, but all other centrally financed environmentally disastrous projects like nationalisation of rivers, widening of highways, etc.
