Govt monitoring river levels, informs Khaunte

Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte on Wednesday said that the Government was closely monitoring water levels in Bicholim and Sankhali Rivers in view of incessant rains lashing the State during the last four days.

He was responding to Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar who raised apprehensions about the rising water levels in these rivers which could result into flood-like situation in Bicholim and Sankhali market areas.
"The Deputy Collector has already started with his work. A team along with the officials of municipal council and fire services are already on the job," he assured.
"The water levels have risen due to incessant rains but are within the permissible limits and not out of control, whether it is Bicholim or Sankhali. CM also has intervened in this matter. We will ensure that whatever needs to be
done will be put in place," Khaunte said.

Cabinet approves amendments to agricultural tenancy act

The State cabinet which met on Wednesday approved amendments to the Goa Agricultural Tenancy Act and will now place the amended version before the House in the current session, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar informed.
