Govt mulls documenting subsidies allotted to farmers in South Goa

Minister for Cooperation and Water Resources Department (WRD) Subhash Shirodkar has mulled documentation of subsidies allotted to farmers in the six talukas of South Goa which would reveal the overall impact on farmers and agriculture in the district.

The WRD Minister has also promised to build new bandharas and wells in the hinterland talukas of Quepem and Sanguem to give boost to 

agriculture.

Stressing on the need to promote agriculture in the State, Shirodkar announced that five new bandharas and twenty wells in Sanguem, Quepem taluka and other nearby areas will be built through Water Resources Department.

Speaking at the 30th Foundation Day of Adarsh Krishi Kharedi Vikri Prakriya Sahakari Sauntha Maryadit, Balli at Balli on Sunday, Shirodkar said the WRD Department will build bandharas and wells for farmers in a bid to bring new land under cultivation. 

Shirodkar took the platform to make a fervent plea to the young generation to take up agriculture as a profession instead of waiting for government employment and other jobs.

Expressing satisfaction that the Adarsh Krishi Kharedi Saunstha has completed 30 years of its glorious journey, he said the organisation has been very significant in promoting agricultural activities and thereby boosting rural economy.

Minister for Social Welfare Subhash Phaldesai complimented Adarsh Saunstha headed by Chairman Prakash Velip for its 30 years fruitful and eventful journey. Phaldessai informed that government is planning to set up Tribal village in Sanguem taluka. The project will be able to highlight agricultural produce and handicrafts of tribal communities in Goa at international level thereby promoting hinterland eco-tourism in the State. 

On the occasion Adarsh Saunstha launched its new deposit and loan scheme. The scheme envisages below 10 percent interest rate on loans for a limited period.

Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa and Chairman of SC and ST Development Corporation Vasudev Gaonkar, Regional Manager Union Bank of India Ashok Upadhyay, Executive Director of Achal Industry M N Pai spoke on the occasion.
