Pitching fisheries as a sector ripe with opportunity, Goa’s Fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar has urged Goan youth to engage in businesses in the sector and become entrepreneurs and job givers.
Halarnkar, who on Friday inaugurated the business-to-business stall, aquarium gallery and the conference at the ‘Aqua Goa’ fest on Campal grounds, said new grounds and technology is being explored in the sector to improve fishing and allied activities and ensure that Goan youth become job providers in the sector.
He also said that the government is open to enhancing the skills of those engaged in fisheries by increasing the scientific content about the sector in academic curricula.
He also said, the government is taking steps to ensure fishing is done sustainably.
