Absence  of coordination between the PWD and electricity department was on full  public display in Mapusa, when a road hotmixed by the PWD on Friday  evening was dug up by the electricity department on Saturday morning

An  unhappy Deputy Speaker and Mapusa MLA has said action will be taken  against those who responsible for this negligence and loss of public  money.

A road of about 150 metres long from St Britto High School  gate to El Capitan building at Feira Alta in Mapusa was hotmixed by the  PWD on Friday night.

To the shock and anger of residents in the  area, workers engaged by the electricity department went to the site  about 12 hours later on Saturday morning and dug up the road to lay  underground cables near the BSNL office.

According to sources,  the road was part of the contractor’s plan to lay down underground  cables and so, the contract labourers simply went ahead and dug a trench  across the road.

PWD officials rushed to the spot and took stock  of the situation but could not do much to stop the digging work to lay  the underground cables.

Locals criticised the lack of coordination  between the two departments and gross wastage of public funds, adding  that the road was hotmixed when the work to lay underground power lines  was still in progress in Mapusa town.

Speaking to reporters, Deputy  Speaker and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza condemned the incident and said  the lack of coordination was unacceptable.

“Action will be taken against those officials who are responsible for this negligence and loss of public money,” said D’Souza.
