Govt puts halt on ad-hoc promotions

The government has cracked down on ‘ad-hoc’ promotions within government departments and in an office memorandum has asked that promotions be regularised before September 30 or the officer shall be reverted to his/her substantive post.

“Departments still resort to ad-hoc promotion/appointment and thereafter no attempts are made to regularise their services. This has resulted in stoppage of salary in many cases due to non-timely granting of extension to ad-hoc services (quoted verbatim),” the Department of Personnel has observed. In a bid to avoid this situation and the consequent hardships to employees who have been promoted on ad-hoc basis, the department has decided that as a one-time measure, such promotions beyond a period of one year will be considered for extension up to September 30, 2017 in consultation with the Goa Public Service Commission.

Goa state museum to have a new home

After years of contemplating and speculating, the Goa State Museum has finally begun the first step to shift to its new location. For years, the government has acknowledged the poor conditions of the state-run museum but has never taken any concrete steps to shift its location.
