Underscoring the government's support to tiatr during the year-long celebrations to commemorate 125 years of Konkani stage (1892 “ 2017) this year, the Minister for Art & Culture, Dayanand Mandrekar, announced the sanction of Rs 1 crore for this purpose.

Addressing a gathering at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on the occasion by the Tiatr Academy of Goa , Mandrekar told the audience that the present government has hiked the award money to State awardees of tiatr from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 and thereafter to Rs 75,000 to current Rs 1 lakh. Likewise, the Art and Culture Minister said the prize money for the tiatr competition winners was enhanced from a paltry Rs 25,000 to Rs 1 lakh for the first prize, Rs 75,000 for the second prize and Rs 50,000 for the third prize -- all during the tenure of the present government. Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, Velim MLA Benjamin Silva and Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva also spoke on the occasion.

Chairman of the Organising Committee, Tomazinho Cardozo, highlighted the need to increase the standard of tiatr. President TAG Augustinho Temudo, complimented the government for sanctioning a sum of Rs 1 crore for the year-long celebrations of 125 years of Tiatr.

Many senior veteran Tiatrists were felicitated on this occasion. They included John Claro Vaz, Anthony Vaz (whose felicitation was accepted by his wife), Antonio Francisco Fernandes, Tita Britto, Antonio Xavier Francisco Dias, Abdonio Rodrigues, C D'Silva, Agapito B C Xavier and Ciriaco Dias among others.
