Govt sends back chief electrical engg

In an interesting development, the Goa Government has terminated the deputation of Chief Electrical Engineer, Dipak S Bhajekar, by giving him a one month s notice after he was promoted at the Power Grid Corporation. Bhajekar, who was then Additional General Manager at the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCI), was appointed as Chief Electrical Engineer for the Goa Electricity Department on the recommendation of the Goa Public Service Commission, and subsequently posted on deputation to the Goa Government on September 24, 2015 for a period of two years.

However, he was later promoted to the post of General Manager in the Power Grid Corporation of India, and had therefore sought from the Goa government permission to report back to PGCI for one day, claim his promotion and return back as Chief Electrical Engineer. However, sources in the government have said that the government refused to accede to his request on grounds that after his promotion he would have to be paid a higher pay scale and would be earning `1.5 lakh more per month than his current salary which would make him higher than even what the Chief Secretary of the State earns. Instead, the government has asked him to return to PGCI as General Manager while they look for his replacement. His departure, after his notice period ends, will leave the Electricity Department without a department head, and while it is not expected to affect the consumers, it may affect major policy decisions of the department, load sanctions and other aspects of the department.
