MAPUSA
Censuring the BJP-led government for making tall claims of infra development, North Goa District Congress President Vijay Bhike on Wednesday said the government should convert the new Mapusa bus stand site into a waterpark or a garden.
“This place neither looks like a bus-stand or a scrap yard or a waste dumping site. The government might as well convert it into a waterpark to entertain the people who visit Mapusa,” Bhike said.
The North Goa District Congress chief along with party members was addressing a news conference by releasing an inflatable boat in the large pool of water formed at
the new bus-stand site in
Mapusa.
He said the BJP was only giving lectures on infrastructure development, but had nothing to show on the ground at least in Mapusa.
“Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is a resident of Mapusa. Can’t he see the sorry state of affairs in the decaying city,” Bhike asked.
He further said all the MLAs in the government were torturing the Urban Development Minister and Mapusa MLA Francisco D’Souza, but the minister has been saying that no files were moving.
“Calangute MLA Michael Lobo should join hands with his senior colleague, Francisco D’Souza and jointly develop the city,” Bhike said.
Taunting the MLAs and ministers who were ready to mess their hands in the fields, he said it was a bit intriguing that legislators have found new love for agriculture when most of the fields in the State have been converted into concrete jungles.
Blaming the PWD for failure to carry out pre-monsoon works, the North Goa District Congress chief said the city was flooded in the rains some days back only because of PWD’s failure to clean the drains and take up other pre-monsoon works.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, member Sudin Naik said Mapusa has always received step-motherly treatment from the government.
“For the last 22 years, the Mapusa MLA has failed to do anything for the city. Since the BJP has its government at the Centre and the State what stops them from carrying out development,” Naik asked.
He said since Mapusa has witnessed so much water during the rains, the government should supply boats to the residents of the city as a new mode of transport.
Congress Mahila member, Mithali Gadekar also spoke at the news conference.
