Saying the government should stop trying to break the opposition parties and manufacture a majority, Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesia on Saturday wondered what has compelled the Congress MLAs to try and get into the ruling party when half of Goa is under water.
Further saying the people get the government they deserve, Sardesai said the way the opposition votes were split, the people have got the present government, which is now trying to split the parties to manufacture a majority.
During an interaction with the media on the sidelines of a book release function at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, the Fatorda MLA said if he wanted to have a tie up or join the ruling party, he could have done first. “Even when we had supported late Manohar Parrikar in 2017, we had put certain conditions, including development of the constituency. Now, it appears that the Opposition MLAs just want to desert their party and be on the ruling side,” he added.
Saying the people of Goa have opted for the option which has put in place a dispensation resorting to fast track sale of the State, the Goa Forward chief said the MLAs also seem to be on a fast track sale.
“If some of the Congress MLAs are planning to switch sides, it is in the fitness of things that they go to the workers and hold meetings. I do not think there is any reason for the Congress MLAs to join the ruling party,” he added.
On the draft notification on the ecologically sensitive areas in the western ghats, Sardesai said the government should hold gram sabhas and create awareness amongst the local populace.
