MARGAO
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Thursday said it is sad that the government had no money to release advertisements and organise a State-level function to mark the beginning of the centenary of great Goan, Dnyanpeeth Awardee Ravindrabab Kelekar when crores of rupees are spent on events.
Saying he had reminded the government about the birth centenary year of acclaimed Goan Konkani poet and writer Manoharrai Sardessai and Dnyanpeeth Awardee Ravindrabab Kelekar, Yuri said it is sad that the government has ignored such tall Icons of Goa.
“It is the responsibility of the Government to celebrate Goan heroes. The government has no right to ignore Goans while celebrating national heroes. I demand that Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant should stop his selective approach and perform his duties as Chief Minister and not as RSS Pracharak,” he said.
He added: “I am happy that Governor of Goa P S Sreedharan Pillai accepted the fact that Ravindrabab's Centenary starts in 2024 and accepted the invitation to be the chief guest for the road naming ceremony at Priol today to mark the beginning of the Centenary of Ravindra Kelekar.”
“The government must immediately prepare a year-long programme to commemorate the centenaries of Sardessai and Kelekar. This should include promoting their literature in other languages, organising literary meets, publishing their unpublished work and also giving them due recognition in the Goa Legislative Assembly Complex," stated Yuri.
