MARGAO
Rail passengers arriving at Margao railway station hope to catch a bus near the St Sebastian Church junction to continue their journey. However, upon reaching the junction, they encounter traffic chaos, with buses parked at the stop and conductors aggressively vying for passengers.
The traffic snarls and the bus conductors forcing gullible passengers into their buses have become a common feature at the traffic junction. Complaints by Aquemkars to streamline the traffic at the junction, especially during the afternoon time and late evenings seem to have fallen on deaf ears of the law enforcing agencies.
Train passengers walking to the junction from the railway station, located just a stone’s throw away, find themselves at the mercy of the bus conductors.
Locals point out that the scene at the Aquem traffic junction does not augur well for tourism in the state. “Bus conductors literally force the passengers to take their bus to proceed to the city or to the KTC bus stand for their onward journey. This is totally unacceptable. But, there is no authority, including the police, to give relief to the passengers, leaving them at the mercy of the unscrupulous bus conductors,” said an Aquem resident.
